TAMPA, FL – April 22, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
Rising wedding costs and shortening engagement timelines are reshaping how Florida brides shop for their gowns, and a growing share are turning to off-the-rack designer sample boutiques to keep budgets intact without sacrificing label or fabric. One Tampa Bay retailer operating under that model, Selected Bridal, marks its second year this spring as designer sample shopping continues to gain share in the national bridal retail market.
The Selected Bridal shop operates as the designer sample and off-the-rack sister location of Isabel O’Neil Bridal Collection, which has served the South Tampa bridal market since 2013. According to The Knot Real Weddings Study, wedding dress costs routinely run into the thousands, with designer labels commanding the higher end of that range — figures that have moved sample-sale and off-the-rack inventory from afterthought to primary shopping path for many couples. The WeddingWire Newlywed Report has documented a parallel compression in engagement timelines, with a rising percentage of couples marrying within a year of getting engaged — leaving little room for the eight- to twelve-month special-order lead times most salons quote.
Industry tracker The Wedding Report has estimated the U.S. wedding market at more than $70 billion annually, with bridal retail representing a multibillion-dollar segment. Sample and off-the-rack formats have captured a rising share of new-purchase volume in that segment, a shift retailers have attributed to both budget pressure and the compressed timelines brides are now navigating.
“Brides are walking in with real constraints: a budget they’d like to respect and a wedding date that won’t wait,” said MaryIsabel Rooney, owner of Selected Bridal and Isabel O’Neil Bridal Collection. “The bride looking for a designer gown the same day she shops isn’t settling. She’s making a clear decision about where her dress fits into the rest of her wedding plans.”
The off-the-rack model addresses both pressures at once. Every gown on the floor is available to take home the day it is tried on, eliminating the months-long wait of a traditional special order. Because inventory rotates through designer samples and curated off-the-rack selections rather than new production orders, prices sit below standard retail on comparable gowns from the same designers.
The boutique’s inventory draws from the couture designer roster associated with Isabel O’Neil Bridal Collection, including Adam Zohar, Alyne by Rita Vinieris, Atelier Pronovias, Bliss Monique Lhuillier, Gala Galia Lahav, Ines Di Santo, Jenny Yoo Bridal, Luna Novias, Riki Dalal, and Rivini. The floor also carries bridal accessories — veils, headpieces, and jewelry — along with wedding dress preservation. Stylists work through the available inventory with each bride’s silhouette, budget, and timeline in mind.
The shift toward off-the-rack designer shopping has been particularly visible in Florida markets, where destination weddings and venue-driven scheduling often compress planning windows. Brides marrying at waterfront venues across Pinellas and Hillsborough counties, in downtown Tampa, and along the Gulf Coast from Clearwater to Sarasota increasingly arrive at their dress appointments with ceremony dates set inside six months. According to the National Bridal Retailers Association, retailers offering same-day sample programs or standalone off-the-rack concepts have reported measurable growth as inventory-first shopping moves from margin to mainstream.
“We opened this location because we were watching our own appointments at Isabel O’Neil change,” Rooney said. “Brides who loved a designer but needed a different price point or a faster timeline were asking for a different kind of shopping experience — not a sample section tucked into the back of a couture salon.”
The Selected Bridaldesigner sample location opened at 1540 South Dale Mabry Highway in April 2024 and serves brides from across the Tampa Bay region, including St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Orlando, and Fort Myers. The Isabel O’Neil Bridal Collection location at 2507 South MacDill Avenue continues as the full-service couture salon, with the two locations covering complementary segments of the regional bridal market.
Tampa Bay has become one of Florida’s most active wedding regions, with The Knot tracking sustained growth in Gulf Coast ceremony bookings. Couples booking along Bayshore Boulevard and across the greater metro area have driven demand for shopping formats that match their planning pace. The shop operates by appointment Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed Sundays.
